Natural, eco-friendly cleaning products are rising in popularity and we wanted to share some interesting facts and a homemade multi-purpose recipe for you to make your own surprisingly effective spray.

There are multiple reasons why we should all aim to make the switch towards using non-toxic cleaning products. First and foremost, the positive benefits to our health. Standard chemical laden cleaning products are easily absorbed into the skin and breathed into our lungs. Thinking about the products you’re using in your home should be thought about in the same way you choose your skincare.

Switching to a brand that uses natural ingredients, means that chemicals will no longer be absorbed into the skin or breathed in by the person cleaning; equally to family members who are exposed to products lingering in the air and sitting on surfaces. Instead, the body benefits from essential oils and food safe ingredients.

Whilst eco and organic products are good for us and our bodies – they’re also kinder to the environment. The environment is our ecosystem, we drink its water and grow our food in its soil – so whatever we spray, winds up going back into the planet and ends up back into and onto us anyway. Its a constant cycle. So don’t assume that because you’re flushing or washing it away that it won’t be harmful to you.

Whilst there are several great brands out there who create fantastic eco and natural cleaning products, our multi-purpose recipe is ideal for those of you who love making your own. It’s both cost effective and thanks to the use of organic essential oils, good for you too. The aromatherapy properties of using essential oils are like a double whammy of the good stuff. Aside from cleaning your home, the properties of the oil you use, can have a positive effect on the mind and body – calming, uplifting or energising, depending on what you use.

Once you start playing with essential oils, scent mixing and more – we guarantee you’ll be wanting to make several sprays for each and every mood!

What you’ll need:
+ Brown glass spray bottle
(brown glass inhibits your spray from turning quickly)
+ 1/4 cup white vinegar
+ 2 tbsp baking soda
+ 1 freshly squeezed lemon
+ 6 drops of rosemary essential oil
+ 6 drops of grapefruit essential oil
+ 1 cup of distilled water

Mix everything together and give it a good shake. The mixture will keep up to 2 weeks in the bottle before you’ll need to make another batch.

Initially, the spray will smell more vinegary than of essential oils, however – once your spray has dried – the oil smell will shine through. Just give your spray a little shake each time you use it, to ensure that the oils have properly dispersed.

There are heaps more ways you can create delicious and eco-friendly sprays for your home, why not try another blend of oils, or adding some castille soap instead of vinegar for another multi-surface spray option.
